The French word “salon” means many things, from the domestic living room to the trade show display. In Les Salons, Adele Schelling photographs trade shows at the Javits Center, where a fresh selection of consumer goods appears every week. This sterile environment, in which the items for sale are not revealed, acts as a metaphor for Schelling’s exploration of America.
