Photographer Roger Ballen has lived and worked in Johannesburg, South Africa for almost 30 years. He worked as a geologist and mining consultant before starting his photographic career by documenting small villages in rural South Africa. Ballen’s books include Outland (Phaidon, 2001), which was named Best Photographic Book of the Year at PhotoEspana 2001, and the newly released Boarding House (Phaidon, 2009). Editor and publisher Darius Himes has contributed to Aperture, Blind Spot, Bookforum, BOMB, PDN and American Photo. Presented by the BFA Photography Department.
