Dana Stirling’s book, Best, with a dash of worse, uses the family album form to explore the very idea of family history. Raised by British parents in Israel, she notes: “Ultimately my family archive made me feel detached and distant from the people who are my own family.” By selecting, arranging and sequencing photographs and other items from the discarded scrapbooks of unknown people, Stirling creates her own history.  In addition to the book, she develops the themes of home, water and mother in framed and freestanding objects.
