Working at the interstices of photography and sculpture, Yan uses physical means to explore the impact of digital existence on human life. Her works develop from everyday things that she selects from her surroundings, filters through a process of image-making, and then transforms back into an object. The resulting sculptures exist somewhere between the virtual and the real—a hybrid state that, in today’s digitized world, increasingly applies to us all.
