In this work, Simon explores formal qualities of shape, volume, and color through the reconfiguration of photographs in three-dimensional space, integrating collage, sculpture, image capture, and performance. Employing various characteristics native to paper—creases, bends, tears—his arrangements are analogous to the form and fragility of the body. Working in a studio environment, Simon crafts an altered reality through the deconstruction and reconstruction of images and their printed counterparts, recasting biblical narratives, often with his own queer body as a stand-in. He fragments the male body, symbolically breaking down its ideologies and mythologies to embrace the idea of identity as construct.
