Zijie Zhu
Memory of Memory

Inkjet prints

zijiezhu.com

Zijie Zhu’s project explores two different types of memory: of his childhood, which was truncated when at age 12 he moved away from family to attend school in Beijing; and of Chinese history, which he represents with photographs from the internet taken between 1947 and 1990, before he was born.  The photographs are manipulated and obscured to suggest the subjectivity of memory and inspire the viewer’s subjective responses.
